Banshee's Wail

Urban Fantasy

Magnus Dwyer had followed orders from childhood all the way into adulthood. He’d joined the Army just like his older brother had— it was expected that they’d follow in their father’s footsteps, except life was never easy, and it certainly didn’t go the way Magnus thought it would.

His service had him facing death time and again while his friends fell all around him. Even his brother was not spared during his service. Magnus stayed the course until he couldn’t anymore. A roadside bomb killed his unit and nearly took his leg off. He was medically discharged, but the doctors had saved his leg.

With lifelong pain and a limp, Magnus still managed to make it through the Metro Police Academy. He worked his way up from patrol officer to detective, but even as a cop, Magnus brushed against death more often than his peers.

Life was orderly, and he helped make a difference for people. He was content with how things were until everything he knew was flipped on its head. His life changed the moment he went to talk to a homicide witness. He’d found the older veteran dead, but that hadn’t stopped the witness from rising up and attacking Magnus.

Suddenly thrust into the truth of the paranormal world, Magnus would have to learn how to cope with his new reality. As if having the veil ripped from his eyes wasn’t enough, he soon found himself entangled with fae, witches, and a succubus. A normal man wouldn’t survive, but Magnus found out that he wasn’t exactly human anymore. That wouldn’t stop him from doing what he’d always done. He would continue to help others, even if it cost him his life.
